The evil practice of Bal-lagna (child marriage) is still prevalent and widely practiced in Patidar community. Many factors such as poverty, ignorance and social pressures are responsible for this evil practice. Parents often get their daughters married even before she reaches her teens as they think it would be difficult to find a suitable match at a later stage. In many situations parents are forced to get their daughters married to older men due to extreme poverty and destitution. The consequence of child marriage often is girl is widowed at young age or deserted by husband. Ultimately the girl becomes a victim of dire circumstances created by others. Dharti Vikas Mandal has vowed to abolish the evil practice of child marriage in its entirety. Our volunteers work in tandem with government authorities to educate people about the adverse effects of child marriage. Dharti Vikas Mandal encourages economic and social boycott of families involved in child marriage. Due to the efforts of our motivated volunteers Dharti Vikas Mandal has prevented many child marriages in the rural parts of South- Gujarat.
